THREADS across the Four Components: ACGME Competency Areas and Areas for Greater Emphasis

Life-long learning, self-awarenessAmong the six areas identified by the FMCR's CCP in the Areas for Greater Emphasis document re: the preclerkship education of all medical students is Life-long learning and self-awareness . Recommendations with regard to why this is important and how to access this can be located at http://fammed.musc.edu/fmc/data/Preclerkship/ Taking this thread further into the other components of the FMCR resource, one can delve into what is suggested within the various resources around the ACGME Competency of Professionalism. For example, within the broad goals and objectives for the family medicine clerkship, the following are suggested under the larger ACGME Competency of professionalism (accessible at http://fammed.musc.edu/fmc/data/ACGME_Themes.htm ). Within this list are many aspects of life-long learning and self-awareness.
Within special topics , such as geriatrics , there are contained student goals and objectives under the ACGME competency of Professionalism centered around self-awareness of one's own developmental stage in life and one's own attitudes about aging and the elderly.
